CBD & Brain Injury

Every year 10 million people suffer from traumatic brain injury/head injuries which leads to death or hospitalization worldwide. But most head injuries are considered mild and no treatment is ever given.

1.1 million suffer head
Those who survive a brain injury are faced with medical bills and declining health through their remaining life. This is caused by the events that occur within the brain from hours to months after the initial injury. These changes in cells are known as secondary events associated with TBI. Currently, there are no known medications that help with the effects to these cells, and the only form of treatment at the time of injury is surgery, simply to relieve pressure on the brain.
Your body has an amazing system, still being studied and learned about today, called the endocannabinoid system that helps regulate homeostasis throughout the body. 2 specific receptors that have been identified and studied the most are CB1 and CB2 receptors. Your body already produces cannabinoids, so when you introduce a supplement like full spectrum CBD oil, it is able to work with your bodies natural system to relieve inflammation, pain and overall help your body maintain a healthy balance.
In clinical studies, CB1 and CB2 receptors are showing protective effects on neuro-degeneration and in reducing lesion size. Previously drugs that have been clinically tried have failed in this area, only showing short term results of lowered intracranial pressure at the time of injury. Cannabinoids are showing exciting results in post-trauma evaluations done in clinical studies. Check out a full research study article here. But aside from clinical studies are the results from real people around the world seeing benefits!
My own CBD journey began because of the promising benefits CBD had to offer for head injuries overall-regardless of the cause, a head injury is life altering and can cause effects for the rest of your life. Did you know the U.S. government has held a patent on cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectors since 2003? If this is your first time knowing this, you need to read the patent for yourself here. The amount of benefits that have already been medically proven with cannabinoids is amazing!
There are still many needed research studies and further investigation as to how much, when type, etc. However, anyone who has suffered a head injury should be on a daily supplement of a full spectrum CBD oil. There are no negative side effects, all you have to gain are benefits. CBD is like a vitamin for your brain, it protects neurological cells and systems, along with many other body systems. CBD truly is a supplement everyone should take.

When I say everyone, I mean everyone, our children included. Remember when I told you about my own CBD journey beginning because of the promising benefits for head injuries? My now 11-year-old son suffered a concussion playing football a year ago. It was one of the scariest moments of my life watching him lay unconscious on the field waiting for him to get up, because of course, these things happen, but never thought it would happen to him. The medical care that followed was nothing, simply monitor him and that is it. Being in the medical field myself, I understood why there were no scans ordered, he had no major symptoms at the time other than a headache so the desire not to expose him to radiation was more important. But the headaches continued and there was nothing to do other than give him Tylenol or Advil as needed.
Well, I know better than to give my child either of those for an extended period of time. He is only 11 so for the rest of his life he would put extra strain on his liver with these “safe” OTC solutions. Tylenol is the leading cause of liver failure in the United States.
Causes of Liver FailureSo I began doing research on natural options not only to help with his headaches but to help with the brain damage he suffered. The answer I found and solution that has been helping over the last year is CBD oil.
If you, your child or other family member has suffered a head injury and has found no options, or maybe even the opposite, over medicated with prescriptions, then share this information with them and I encourage you or them to try it!
