CBD & Brain Injury

Every year 10 million people suffer from traumatic brain injury/head injuries which leads to death or hospitalization worldwide. But most head injuries are considered mild and no treatment is ever given.

1.1 million suffer head
Those who survive a brain injury are faced with medical bills and declining health through their remaining life. This is caused by the events that occur within the brain from hours to months after the initial injury. These changes in cells are known as secondary events associated with TBI. Currently, there are no known medications that help with the effects to these cells, and the only form of treatment at the time of injury is surgery, simply to relieve pressure on the brain.
Your body has an amazing system, still being studied and learned about today, called the endocannabinoid system that helps regulate homeostasis throughout the body. 2 specific receptors that have been identified and studied the most are CB1 and CB2 receptors. Your body already produces cannabinoids, so when you introduce a supplement like full spectrum CBD oil, it is able to work with your bodies natural system to relieve inflammation, pain and overall help your body maintain a healthy balance.
In clinical studies, CB1 and CB2 receptors are showing protective effects on neuro-degeneration and in reducing lesion size. Previously drugs that have been clinically tried have failed in this area, only showing short term results of lowered intracranial pressure at the time of injury. Cannabinoids are showing exciting results in post-trauma evaluations done in clinical studies. Check out a full research study article here. But aside from clinical studies are the results from real people around the world seeing benefits!
My own CBD journey began because of the promising benefits CBD had to offer for head injuries overall-regardless of the cause, a head injury is life altering and can cause effects for the rest of your life. Did you know the U.S. government has held a patent on cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectors since 2003? If this is your first time knowing this, you need to read the patent for yourself here. The amount of benefits that have already been medically proven with cannabinoids is amazing!
There are still many needed research studies and further investigation as to how much, when type, etc. However, anyone who has suffered a head injury should be on a daily supplement of a full spectrum CBD oil. There are no negative side effects, all you have to gain are benefits. CBD is like a vitamin for your brain, it protects neurological cells and systems, along with many other body systems. CBD truly is a supplement everyone should take.

When I say everyone, I mean everyone, our children included. Remember when I told you about my own CBD journey beginning because of the promising benefits for head injuries? My now 11-year-old son suffered a concussion playing football a year ago. It was one of the scariest moments of my life watching him lay unconscious on the field waiting for him to get up, because of course, these things happen, but never thought it would happen to him. The medical care that followed was nothing, simply monitor him and that is it. Being in the medical field myself, I understood why there were no scans ordered, he had no major symptoms at the time other than a headache so the desire not to expose him to radiation was more important. But the headaches continued and there was nothing to do other than give him Tylenol or Advil as needed.
Well, I know better than to give my child either of those for an extended period of time. He is only 11 so for the rest of his life he would put extra strain on his liver with these “safe” OTC solutions. Tylenol is the leading cause of liver failure in the United States.
Causes of Liver FailureSo I began doing research on natural options not only to help with his headaches but to help with the brain damage he suffered. The answer I found and solution that has been helping over the last year is CBD oil.
If you, your child or other family member has suffered a head injury and has found no options, or maybe even the opposite, over medicated with prescriptions, then share this information with them and I encourage you or them to try it!

A Natural Pain Relief Option

Chronic pain will take over life if you are not able to find a way to manage it or even better find a way to address the root cause of where the pain is coming from, and correct the problem. Pain is the body’s natural response to inflammation, injury, disease and a way that your body is telling you something is wrong.

Did you know that your body has an entire system that works to help regulate homeostasis? In 1992 the endocannabinoid system within the body was discovered. The endocannabinoid system is an internal body system that produces cannabinoids which interact with receptors in the brain and central nervous system. The system can help to regulate chronic inflammation and pain.

CBD Oil interacts with this body system and its receptors. These receptors are useful in helping the body to heal itself in situations of pain, epilepsy, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis to name a few. Because the receptors are found throughout your body and because your body is capable of amazing things when given the right environment, CBD helps with so many things!

CBD is derived from the hemp plant, and to be legally sold in all 50 states must have less than .03% THC. Unlike THC which cause a psychoactive effect that results in a high, CBD does not produce the effect but produces all the benefits of the hemp plant!

Hemp wasn’t always illegal, in fact, it was a big part of our country’s economy before 1932. You were even able to pay your taxes with hemp, and it was required for farmers to grow it. It was widely sold in drug stores and suggested for numerous health ailments.

If you suffer from chronic pain and haven’t been able to find a solution to help you get back to living your life before pain, then you need to try CBD oil and experience it for yourself! I suffered from chronic back pain for 16 years before I found CBD Biocare and the amazing healing properties of the oil!

CBD oil is a daily supplement that will do more than relieve your pain, it will improve your quality of life! Order by St.Patrick’s day and save! CBD is more valuable tha a leprechaun’s pot of gold!

Cancer & CBD

There is growing research for CBD in the oncology field and it shows some promising findings! But CBD is not cure so let’s talk about why CBD is a supplement that can help get you through the diagnosis of cancer.

A cancer diagnosis happens suddenly for most and can be the cause of a lot of anxiety, even if you’ve never had anxiety previously. It’s alot of unknowns, who isn’t anxious about what they don’t know? In addition to researching and empowering yourself to take control is one way to battle the anxiety, but CBD oil can be a front line soldier for you too.

Full Spectrum CBD includes over 80 cannabinoids that interact within your body. A good portion of these interact with your Central Nervous System and can actually help to calm it down in times of high stress and anxiety. It works well as a daily supplement but it also works wonders in acute times of anxiety and stress. Just a few drops under the tongue and within a few minutes, calm, without any drowsiness or side effects medications can cause.

Pain & Inflammation

This right here is the number one benefit of CBD Oil hands down! It has all the benefits of pain relief without the side effects pain medications can cause like constipation, nausea, and even addiction. CBD works with receptors in your Central Nervous System to relieve the pain receptors. Not only does it work on a neurological level, but CBD also helps the body to eliminate inflammation which also reduces pain.

Another benefit of choosing CBD for pain over medications is you have no risk of overdose with CBD oil. You also do not have to worry about the side effects that come along with prescription medications like nausea or constipation.

A Cancer Diagnosis

Nothing can put into words what someone must feel when they are given a diagnosis so serious. No one can truely imagine what it is like to go through the process until they have done it themselves. But nothing in this world last forever, not even the world itself!

When you can take your perception of what society says and change it to what actually is the reality of the situation you realize something. Every single person born into this life will have a means to the end of thier life at some point. We all reach an expiration date at some point, the only difference is how. It’s not even a matter of when.

We all have different obstacles that happen in life that require us to overcome them. This is no different. Don’t let yourself fall into a victim role with your diagnosis. Make that diagnosis your victim!! Tell that cancer just where to go, to hell in a hand basket.

The key step to overcoming any obstacle in life is to first know you can. If you tell yourself you’re going to be sick and go down fast then you can bet you’re going to feel worse day by day. If you wake up daily, find your strength and motivate yourself through the hard parts I know you will feel and do better throughout your life! And after all the only thing we all want is to improve our quality of life! We want to enjoy the things we do from day to day, we want to enjoy what time we have with loved ones and we want to feel good while doing it!

If you can do one thing everyday from here on out it is to look inside you for your strength, and where your strength ends, Gods strength begins! You are never alone on your journey through life. You can and will make the most of your life and no cancer can stop you!!

Managing Cancer Treatment Side Effects

While undergoing cancer treatment there are an array of possible side effects you may experience. Some minor, others more severe. But either way they can sometimes seem worse than the diagnosis itself.

While there are plenty of options to take additional medications to combat some of these side effects, that too can come with it’s own side effects. Plus let’s not mention the fact that chemotherapy alone is enough to overload your body with harmful, yet beneficial toxins. Unfortunately chemotherapy is a systemic treatment that not only effects the cancer cells but also the healthy cells, so it is vital to give your body enough nutrition during this to help repair the healthy cells.

This post will discuss simple, natural options to help combat some side effects of undergoing treatment. These are not to replace medical advice and are not to treat the cause, just ways to help you feel your best during the process.

Common Side Effects

  1. Nausea/Vomiting
  2. Loss of appetite
  3. Fatigue
  4. Skin Reactions
  5. Depression/Anxiety
  6. Pain

These are not all, or guaranteed effects you will have, but possibilities of what can happen. If you’ve found something not listed that helped you please list them in the comments as they may help someone else 🙂

Depending on your chemotherapy regimen or your area of radiation treatment this can be a common side effect. While you will probably be prescribed special antiemetic medications to help control this, here are a few additional things that you can try to help with this. Ginger and/or peppermint is very calming for the digestive tract and you can use it to make a tea, or as an essential oil to apply to the stomach area. Always use a carrier oil when applying essential oils to skin. There are also essential oil blends that you can get that are very effective in combating nausea. Digestzen by DoTerra is my favorite for this side effect. Small bland meals may also need to be consumed to help keep the digestive tract calm and allow for it to take it easy and recuperate from the treatment effects. Staying away from spicy and bold flavorings during your treatment would be a good idea too. There are wrist bands sold at drug stores that use pressure points to help relieve nausea that I’ve seen quite a few people use.

Loss of appetite

This is another common side effect and occurs a lot of time from either not being able to physically swallow as a side effect of radiation or loss of taste sensation as a side effect of chemotherapy. Either way it is important to maintain adequate nutrition regardless of your appetite level. It is important to understand that not only are the cancer cells in your body being targeted by whichever treatment modality you’ve chosen to go with, but your good cells in your body are also receiving effects from the treatment. They are also exposed to the chemo drugs and radiation. Therefore it is important to give your good cells proper nutrition to support their healing. If your not able to or have no desire to eat you may try supplemental drinks or even better make your own smoothies full of vegtables and fruits to help support your body with proper nutrients. Try these smoothie recipes, look up hundreds of options on the internet or create your own. Just get some nutrition in your body!

This is the number one side effect of radiation treatments and when in conjuction with chemotherapy can be even more extreme. While some people make it through the treatments with little side effects of fatigue others are hit harder with it. More commonly those who live an active lifestyle are able to remain active and have little fatigue. But if you find you become fatigued it is important to listen to your body and take some time to rest. Naps throughout the day or even an earlier bedtime may be necessary. Staying fully hydrated can also help minimize fatigue and this goes for after you’ve completed treatment as well. This ties in with the idea of supplying your body with adequate nutrients. We all know water is a staple of life and during your treatments proper hydration is important. If you’re not able to ingest enough fluids you will most likely have IV fluids ordered by your oncologist. Try adding some flavoring to water if you dont generally drink water or try using a straw and setting a goal of drinking half your weight in ounces daily. Adding this one simple step to your treatment regimen will help make a huge difference in managing your side effects and help keep you feeling your best.

Skin Reactions

Certain chemotherapy drugs can cause some pretty intense skin reactions that can present like acne, rashes and/or hives. It’s important to try and not itch or break open the skin, as bacteria can then be introduced and cause infections. Oatmeal bathes and soothing lotion can help reduce the itching in this situation. Hydrocortisone may also help the itching. A natural option would be some pure aloe vera with a little bit of lavender essential oil. You may also use some tea tree and create a blend that will also help keep any bacterial infection risk down. Radiation treatments can also cause a skin reaction similar to a sunburn. If the reaction becomes to bad there is a prescription your oncologist will prescribe but before that happens there are some over the counter options you have to help minimize skin reactions. Pure aloe vera is a great option just make sure it has no alcohol in it. If you wish to use aloe from a plant make sure you are not using the plant if the skin becomes broke open to prevent any bacterial infection possibility. Aquaphor is another OTC option you can find at a local drug store. It is thick but helps to keep the skin moisturized. It is important that you do not use any creams before your radiation treatments as this can worsen the reaction. Apply creams 2-4 times a day. Don’t use any soaps or creams with fragrance or harsh chemicals. Once you’ve completed treatment if you notice your skin is dry during the healing process Vitamin e oil is very good at addressing this. You can even buy the capsules and break them open on the area needed. For breast treatments skin reactions can be more common, as this can be a tough area with wearing a bra. A trick that may help if you’re not comfortable going braless, is to wear a camisole under your bra. It helps to prevent rubbing. Placing gauze under the breast may also help.

A roller coaster of emotions is to be expected during treatment. You’re attitude can and will affect the effects and results of treatment and while everyday won’t be easy, everyday doesn’t have to be hard either. Having a diagnosis of a terminal outcome can be scary, but when you really think about it we are all terminal, no one knows when they are going to go and no one knows how much you still have ahead. Educating yourself on positive things like nutrition and finding something destressing like yoga or walking can help to keep you focused on the positive side of your treatment. Yes you will have a ton of appointments and it can be overwhelming, but remember to also put your mental health and stress levels into your treatment routine and do things that make you smile. A smile can go further than you think!

This is one of the more difficult side effects to manage without the use of prescription pain medication. However not everyone receives relief from these options or even worse become addicted. I invite you to join me on an upcoming webinar to discuss this side effect further and how to help manage it and even help manage the above side effects at the same time!

Confusion with the FDA

We all know that CBD is a hot topic with many businesses both online and in store are emerging everywhere. I myself became a sales representative with a reputable company after my research and experience with CBD full spectrum hemp oil. I could not believe how little I actually knew about CBD and it’s benefits. What surprised me even more was the lack of education or public knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and how we are already producing cannabinoids ourselves!

It confuses me why the government still has cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug, but that’s a discussion for future reference. It confuses me that the FDA which regulates and publicly approves countless unsafe and dangerous products that result in death has become so hard on the way companies can promote CBD. The facts are there, the research is there, maybe not all within the United States and yes further research will continue, and the most important part it’s helping people. It’s improving quality of life, and that is the most important thing to me, for the consumer to understand this is a safe product that will improve your quality of life. It’s that simple.

But of course people want the evidence and to see the research, especially after being told that it’s a drug all thier lives. But as a sales representative the FDA has said I cannot make medical claims, ok I agree I am not a doctor. I cannot site medical research or share testimonies. So I rely on people doing thier own research, which doesn’t always happen unfortunately.

So please do your own research on anything you put into your body. Everything you do affects your health and quality of life. Look for those things to improve your quality of life, after all we only get one.

Don’t poison yourself..

Is CBD safe?

Absolutely CBD that is pure, extracted properly and tested is safe. What is not safe is consuming a supplement that has not been tested and potentially has toxins and contaminates. The CBD industry is fairly new and a hot topic. A lot of companies are coming out and a lot are reputable and provide an amazing product that is changing lives. Unfortunately there are people who just want to make a quick buck and will cut corners at your expense!

CBD is an unregulated industry. The only standard that CBD manufactures are held to at this time, is that their oil must contain less than .3% THC to be legal. There is no additional testing that needs to be followed at this time. But if you are purchasing a CBD based product you NEED to make sure it is tested not only for cannabinoids but that it is pure and with no toxins. If a company does not test and will not disclose their testing results, do not consume their product! Below is an example of a certificate of analysis:

Screenshot 2018-10-10 at 7.17.40 PM

There are companies out there who do not test because they use cheap extraction methods such as paint thinner. This poses a serious health risk and while it is a disgusting business practice it is best to be an educated consumer and protect yourself.

What Companies Test?

There is no shortage of companies that offer a quality CBD oil that has been tested. If you go on a company website you can most likely find a COA (certificate of analysis) if they test. The CBD products I use personally have a QR code on the label that allows you to scan and pull up the COA right on the spot.

If you are looking for a quality CBD oil that tests check out CBD BioCare. You can access testing both via website and QR code.

The Opioid Epidemic

Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts from weeks to years. It is caused by inflammation or dysfunctional nerves. 1 in 5 people suffer from moderate to severe chronic pain. The only medical treatment available for chronic pain is pain management which involves numerous pain medications which leads to multiple side effects. Addiction being the number one side effect of prescription medications. There is an entire generation of children being raised by their grandparents because of this epidemic. 1 in 5 deaths of young adults in 2016 was due to an overdose. IN 2016 42,249 people died from opioid overdoses in the United States. Want to learn more opioid facts check out Opioid Facts

The Answer (or part of it anyway)

There is an answer to the opioid crisis happening across America. There is an option for pain relief without seeking addictive medications, without trading your life for a moment without pain. CBD oil is a natural, 100% effective and fully safe option for chronic pain relief and therefore help fight back against the epidemic.

CBD offers an alternative to a prescription for pain relief. It uses CB2 receptors to help relieve inflammation and neurological deficiencies to relieve pain. There is no overdose possible with CBD as it does not act on the part of the brain that controls breathing and automatic organ function. CBD also has few drug interactions so can be safely taken with most medications, always consult your doctor before starting a new supplement.

With the CDC cracking down on the regulations for prescription medications patients are crying out because they no longer receive the medication that made them capable of functioning. Well here’s hope to being pain free and with out side effects of the pills. Learn more about CBD.

CBD Oil for Dogs

Does it work?

Yes. CBD can be very effective in treating a multitude of conditions in dogs. From calming for anxious dogs to pain and overall ease of aging. It can help to support the immune system and fight inflammation much like it can for us owners. Any animal with a backbone can benefit from the hemp plant. CBD, one of over 80 different cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, interacts with the endocannabinoid system which helps to regulate homeostasis. Here are some examples of what CBD can help with:

  • Chronic pain- cancer pain, hip pain, pain associated with aging
  • Dog’s who are anxious
  • Dogs with allergies
  • Arthritis
  • Epilepsy

What’s the difference in pet CBD?

Nothing but the labeling. If purchased from a trusted source, it is the exact same CBD we use. A label to indicate it is for pet use is the only difference.

How to use CBD oil for dogs.

CBD oil is very easy to give to your pet, simply add a few drops to his/her food or treat. If they like it enough you can give them their dose directly from the dropper. There are treats some companies make with CBD, completely up to you as the owner to use, but I recommend and use the oil directly for best results.

How much do I use?

The key thing to remember with CBD is that everyone/dog has a different body which needs a specific amount. The easiest and best way to figure out what amount you need is to start slow and add more drops as needed until your pup gets the desired results. It can take a few drops to a whole dropper. Starting slow and finding the right dose also helps for it to be most cost effective as you won’t be giving any extra oil that is not needed.

Do I need a prescription?

No! CBD is available online and able to ship to all 50 states, no prescription or vet needed.

CBD can be an amazing addition to your pets healthcare routine. It can help with so many things that every dog should have some!! It truely is a gift from God to help us all. Here is the CBD oil we use and trust for our family, pets included: CBD Oil

The Truth

I see so many arguments and debates on social media regarding modern medicine vs. natural medicine! I’m sure I’m not alone here either. But the truth is, both sides are missing out if they are debating this in the first place! I love my natural solutions and because I use them daily for my family we spend less time needing modern medicine but believe me when we need to we go to the doctor we do.  There are so many wonderful advancements in modern medicine that our life expectancy has increased drastically over the years. There are so many more advancements to come too! But there is definitely a need for natural plant-based medicine to have a place in our healthcare. There has become this huge disconnect of treating the patient as a whole. Rather than seek to improve all areas of life, which always influence one another, modern medicine has simple become a rat race to cover a symptom and a booming business at the expense of people’s lives. There is a huge gap that needs to be bridged between modern medicine and quality of life!

Fun Fact: Did you know the father of modern medicine, Hippocrates, was an herbalist? He used over 250 different plants to treat aliments!

Did you know the 5 leading causes of death (heart disease, cancer, lung disease and stroke) are all preventable! Prevention is the key factor in maintaining good health. While not all things can be prevented, there are so many things that can! This is where life style and plant-based medicine’s role comes in. There are so many proven benefits of mood elevation, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antiviral with essential oils and proper nutrition. Essential oils allow for a way to positively interact with the body using chemical messengers. These chemical messengers are the same compounds used by the plant to defend itself, maintain health, and attract friends (bees for pollination) and act in the same manner for us. We may use essential oils to defend ourselves from microorganisms or bugs, we can use oils to balance out chemical imbalances and help our bodies to reach homeostasis and we can also use oil to attract and smell pleasant and elevate mood. By using the oils in this manner we can help to prevent disease and discomfort.

A vital role in prevention of disease is diet. As convenient as our diet has become, that convenience is at a price. We are literally paying that price with our lives! Your body is constantly trying to balance and maintain homeostasis. It is trying to find any toxins, foreign bodies or imbalances and excrete and correct these problems. In order to properly do this your body requires certain nutrients and needs that without proper diet and supplementation cannot happen. A proper diet free from as many toxins as possible – (find good link to nutrition article) and correct supplementation can make all the difference in your disease and aging process. Not only can this prevent but in many cases can reverse what ever aliments are occurring. The body is an amazing thing and when given the proper tools it can regenerate and repair itself miraculously.

An important supplement that has been removed from the American population for over 3 decades is cannabinoids. I am not talking about THC either, the cannabinoid responsible for the mind altering effects of marijuana. CBD which is found in higher levels in the hemp plant along with over 80 other cannabinoids interacts within your body with what is known as the endocannabinoid system. This system helps regulate homeostasis and can play a vital role in auto immune and neuralgic disorders.  See Health Benefits of Cannabis to learn more.

Essential oils are not only good for prevention but can be very powerful as a treatment option for a number of health concerns. I always go to my essential oils first and if they need some help I then turn to modern medicine. There is no reason why you have to choose one or the other, they can both be beneficial together. I will say though you always need to research and verify with a certified aromatherapist if you are going to use oils medicinally. There are safety protocols to be followed. There is such thing as too much of a good thing! It is important to know how to use and when to use essential oils. Consulting with a certified aromatherapist can allow for this to take place. Since essential oils are not regulated by an agency anyone can use them, anyone can make them and anyone can give advice, so be sure you know your sourcing for your oil and how to use them. Self education and experience can also help with knowing what to use. Knowing basic guidelines and then self experimenting to find what works for you is the best route to take. Some common everyday occurrences that can be treated with essential oils would be:

  • burns- lavender
  • fever/headache – peppermint
  • bug bites – lavender
  • sunburn- aloe vera with lavender
  • antibiotic properties/cold flu/helps with viral- oregano & melaleuca
  • anxiety – wild orange

Fun Fact: Did you know about half of all liver transplants that take place in the United States are caused by chronic acetaminophen use! & this is something we give to our children! You can break a fever with peppermint essential oil or willows bark herb. You can relieve the same pain relief from using a blend of essential oils or again using the willows bark. You have other options than using a toxic yet “safe” pill someone created for a profit.

CBD has shown some remarkable properties in epilepsy, chronic pain, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, anti-tumor properties, PTSD and many other conditions. Such promising evidence exists that the United States government holds a patent on the use of cannabinoids and CBD specifically as a nueroprotector and effective in treating a number of medical conditions in therapeutic dosages. See for yourself  US Patent …507

Herbal medicine is another very powerful natural option to help restore and give your body what it needs. After all 80% of all prescription medications were created mimicking the medicinal properties of plant components. So why not learn and educate yourself on what natural, cost effective options you have and decide what is best for you? Often times a natural solution can be enough to get back to your optimal health state, and if it’s not enough then you can use additional modern medicine to help.

The decision is yours…

The purpose of this topic was not to sway your opinion one way or another on the use of both natural and modern medicine. But rather to give you some key points and examples of how integrating both together can be a good course of action should you choose. There is a vast majority of information available online regarding any aliment and natural option you can think of, it just takes the time to learn your options, educate yourself on the situation you are facing and deciding for you what the best course of action is. Of course you should always talk with your doctor before making any decisions but remember they are your decisions to make. While a doctor is a health expert and vastly more knowledgeable in the area of health, he is still a human and still doesn’t have all the answers and is not always right. It is up to you as a patient and individual to take back the power to control your health and make educated decisions on what to do, not just give the power over to another.

It is your health and your life so I wish you well on your journey and am here to help if needed!!
